Foras Na Fuaime
Sound artist & field recordist from the west of Ireland.
Her focus lies in the creation of work that challenges our auditory perception, activating our senses and creating sonic dialogues that open us up to other ways of experiencing and connecting with the world around us.
This is articulated through sculptural forms, installation, composition, explorations in transmission, radio art, sonic publication, collective sound experiences, diy making and performance.
The foundation of her practice is field recording. She also frequently uses transmission as a portal to fuse ideas on real & imagined pasts, found sounds, lost rituals, possible futures, and alternate realities.
She is inspired by the philosophies of composer Pauline Oliveros who viewed listening as activism and the power of sound and sounding as a catalyst for engagement, attunement and change.
Her practice has been enhanced over the years by engagements with and learning from leading practitioners in areas from field recording & electroacoustic composition to experimental electronic builds & technical aspects of installation, they include, Jana Winderen, Christina Kubisch, Chris Watson, Beatriz Ferreyra & Ernst Karel of Harvard’s Sound Lab.
Due to her interests in community making and DIY electronics she has also been selected to attend workshops based on the construction of experimental sound devices from the Rijksakademie, Amsterdam to The Onassis Stegi in Athens.
Her sculptural work is elaborated through a wide range of collaborative and sonically interactive forms which led to Anne Marie being awarded a studio and support from the National Sculpture Factory in Cork for 2023 for work showcased as part of the Galway International Arts Festival 2023.
Her collaboration with artist Rachel Doolin as Oscillithic has led to them being offered the inaugural National Sculpture Factory Research Residency award. They also attended a residency to further there individual and collaborative practice at Sìm, Iceland graciously funded by the European Union & Goethe Institut - Culture Moves Europe - Mobility Scheme. April 2024.
Anne Marie was an artist in residence with The Guesthouse Project Cork In-house 2 program for 18 months beginning in July 2022. This creative dialogue has evolved and has led to engagements with other artists from different disciplines and has been a catalyst for the advancement of experimental ideas. This also resulted in the collective taking up a residency on Cape Clear island, on and off site for the month of November, called Expanded Island which will result in a collective exhibition of works in autumn 2024.
